As we approach the end of the year, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all who have generously donated to A Brighter Day Charity. Your support has been instrumental in helping us provide essential resources to teens and families struggling with stress, depression, and mental health challenges. Together, we are working towards one critical goal—stopping teen suicide.
For those of you who may be considering year-end charitable donations, there’s exciting news! The IRS has made it easier for individuals to make impactful donations while reducing their tax burden.
New IRS Ruling Benefits Charitable Giving
Did you know you can now assign your 2024 Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from an IRA or 401(k) directly to a qualified charity like A Brighter Day? By doing so, you avoid having to declare the RMD as taxable income, which could potentially push you into a higher tax bracket. This means you can give to causes close to your heart without increasing your tax liability!
In the past, individuals had to take the RMD as income and then donate it separately. But now, thanks to this updated rule, you can directly donate your RMD to a charity of your choice, including organizations focused on mental health and teen suicide prevention—a mission A Brighter Day champions.
How Your RMD Donation Can Save Lives
At A Brighter Day, we’re dedicated to providing free mental health resources to teens and their families, with the goal of reducing stress, depression, and suicide rates. Your RMD donation can help fund workshops, online toolkits, and support programs that reach thousands of young people and families every month.
If you’re unsure which charity to support, consider A Brighter Day. By designating your RMD to us, you can have a profound impact on the lives of teens and families, while also benefiting from tax savings.
Other Charitable Planning Options
Beyond donating your RMD, there are several other ways to lower your taxable income while supporting charities like ours. Some of these include:
- Donating appreciated stock or real estate
- Donating a life insurance policy
- Creating a Charitable Remainder Trust
- Naming a charity as a beneficiary of your non-probate assets
- Establishing a bequest to charity in your will
These options allow you to leave a lasting legacy, benefiting future generations while aligning with your financial and charitable goals.
Why Your Support Matters Now
Last year, Americans donated over $484 billion to charitable causes, and we are truly the most generous nation on the planet. But the need is still great, especially when it comes to teen mental health. With your help, we can continue to create meaningful resources that offer hope and support to families struggling with overwhelming stress and depression.
As you plan your year-end giving, I encourage you to think about the causes you care about most. If teen mental health is close to your heart, please consider supporting A Brighter Day with your RMD or other charitable contributions. Every donation, large or small, helps us reach more families and save lives.
